WHATS IS DEUSTO BUSINESS SCHOOL?
The idea of creating the Deusto Business School was born out of a vision and a vocation to create one of the best business schools for postgraduate executive education in Spain, and one of the top ten business schools in Europe, with the best international standards in all areas of management.
Deusto Business School is unequivocally committed to the idea of offering world-class executive education.
The school has been created with support and backing from national and international corporate and economic leaders. Its board of directors, academic board and international advisory board include leaders of the largest Spanish companies, together with figures of international prestige, who are committed to the project and are prepared to invest their time and talent in working for it.
The world in which the western economy will have to operate is 'and will continue to be' one of great changes and of complex challenges arising out of the globalisation and interdependence of markets, increased competences and generalised deregulation and liberalisation.
There will continue to be a growing demand for capable leaders, qualified professionals and executives with a global perspective. The Deusto Business School's mission is to help develop such people. In doing so, the Deusto Business School seeks to include a technically well-founded reflection, in which the human dimension occupies a central role, inspiring all activities at the school.
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL:
Deusto Business School (DBS) is the Business Administration School of the University of Deusto. DBS, created by integrating the ESTE in San Sebastian and La Comercial in Bilbao, aims to be an international reference point for business and executive training for future business leaders.
The school has nearly 200 professors and researchers on staff, 270 visiting professors, over 1,700 undergraduates enrolled in its programmes and 1,000 students yearly in its Master's degrees, Open Programmes and In Company Programmes. Deusto Business School focuses on innovation and keeping up to date with the latest tendencies in the twenty first century, management education and a firm commitment to developing the business school today's changing world needs. These efforts are all based on nearly 100 years of widely recognised quality education, teaching excellence and the thousands of successful business executives who studied at Deusto.
SIGNS OF IDENTITY:
Deusto Business School has assumed four key commitments to its students: development of four distinctive features that characterise our strategy and run transversally through our programmes.
- An international vision, so that our graduates can successfully exercise their leadership and professional skills in today's global world of business.
- Digital strategy, enabling our students to become familiar not only with today's digital business platforms but also with their future development.
- Innovation, entrepreneurship and creative thinking, equipping our graduates to approach their careers with an enterprising, innovative, critical and creative mindframe, which is vital on today's uncertain business scene.
- Sustainability, so that our graduates are capable of producing value added for the firm from the operative and financial perspectives, while also being prepared to create value through the firm's social and environmental impact.
This is the approach Deusto uses to form innovative, creative, enterprising business leaders who are fully prepared to generate value for their firms and society. These professionals are knowledgeable about the digital context of business and committed to working for a fair sustainable world economy.
With this mission foremost in our minds, Deusto Business School is embarking on its development at an inflection point in executive education, following the world financial crisis that has questioned the short term model of growth for business and the prevailing model of the classic manager.
International Approach: On this new scenario, Deusto Business School aims to stand out as an advanced institution on the international level. We focus on forming leaders who are fully prepared for the new conditions required to create value through dialogue with all the interest groups affected by the business. These professionals are capable of managing any financial, social or environmental issues that may arise in sucessful firms in the twenty first century. This approach is the guideline for all of the programmes offered by our school.
CENTENARY INSTITUTION:
Deusto Business School continues to consolidate its commitment to the century old University of Deusto: form all round professionals who are sensitive to the needs of people, socially responsible and whose human quality is a distinctive feature of their management style.
Run by the Society of Jesus, the University of Deusto opened its doors in 1886, making it the first centre for higher education in the Basque Country. During these 120 years since it was founded, Deusto has become an emblematic presence in the two cities where its campuses are located:Bilbao and San Sebastian. Deusto has been a pioneer institution in the field of Business Administration, forming leaders at its two faculties: La Comercial, at the Bilbao campus since 1916 and ESTE at the San Sebastian Campus, created in 1956.
The Board of Directors comprises majors leaders from the economic and business world. The board runs, advises and defines the strategy of the Deusto Business School.
FACILITIES:
The new development of Deusto Business School began with a sizeable investment to equip the school with teaching facilities comparable to those of other leading business schools.
‘La Comercial’ Building (Bilbao Campus):
The historic La Comercial building in the centre of Bilbao is where Deusto Business School’s head office is located. The interior of this beautiful, historic building has been designed to meet the needs of the new undergraduate, postgraduate and
executive education programs which are now located on the third floor of the building.
During the recent refurbishment, an additional 4,920 m2 have been added to the premises. The new facilities include four amphitheatre classrooms, eight teamwork rooms and a large open-plan area for offices. The remaining four floors include 21 classrooms, 12 group workrooms and an auditorium. The former economics and management library has been converted into a Faculty Club that has become a meeting point for students and professors.
The new Deusto Business School Building (San Sebastian Campus):
A new building houses Deusto Business School at the San Sebastian Campus. It is located at the entrance to the campus and comprises 1,850 m2 on four floors.
In addition to the new classrooms, a building has been specifically designed to teach the executive education programs. The complex also houses the ‘business projects’ accelerator’, a discrete unit dedicated to the work of a group of innovative entrepreneurs (ex-alumni and corporate partners). The campus boasts state-of-the-art equipment and technological resources - digital classrooms, multimedia space and videoconference rooms - that are located in the Technology Building.
Deusto Business School facilities in Madrid:
Deusto Business School has inaugurated new facilities in Madrid in the heart of the city’s business and financial centre – the Barrio de Salamanca - in a beautiful palace at Calle Castelló 76. This historic and stately three-storey building includes classrooms
where senior management and in-company programs are taught and houses the International Relations department. The building contains classrooms for executive programs, faculty offices, meeting and group workrooms, a library and an
auditorium, in addition to boardroom facilities for Deusto Business School’s directors. The privileged location of these new offices is a key factor in pursuing the goal to become a reference, meeting point and center of activities for the wide network of Deusto international alumni and for those alumni who live and work in Madrid.
